Rosie Piercy (she/her) Elder, Fluent Inuktitut Speaker

Rosie is a retired Inuttut teacher, a traditional knowledge keeper, fluent Inuttut speaker, and respected Inuit Elder in Hopedale. Rosie’s teaching career has spanned 25 years at Amos Comenius Memorial School (ACMS) where she held positions as the Core Inuttut teacher, Inuttut Immersion Teacher and the Vice Principal.

She has a high level of knowledge and expertise in Inuttitut language and culture. Although she attended residential school in the 1970’s, this system did not succeed in diminishing her cultural wisdom. Her passion and drive to keep her language and culture alive is strong.

In her lifetime, she had hoped to see a program/place that ensures the maintenance of Inuttut for future generations, and she is very excited to be a part of Inotsiavik.

Her role with Inotsiavik will be to serve as an Inuttut mentor to ensure we provide the highest quality of Inuttut instruction.

In her free time, Rosie enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, volunteering in her community, singing, sewing, and works closely with her Moravian Church community as a chapel servant.
